EcoCoat — Bachelor thesis & ALE programme
- ALE
- EcoCoat
- Reaction water
Adaptive laboratory evolution of E. coli 498 toward toxic industrial reaction water in the EcoCoat project at IMC Krems, with Kansai Helios as industry partner.
- Context
- Industrial reaction water from polyester resin production is currently incinerated. EcoCoat tests whether biology can treat it instead.
- My role
- Project intern, then scientific staff. I design and run the morbidostat experiments, build the analysis pipelines, and set up the validation assays.
- Methods & tools
- Morbidostat ALE
- Python time-series analysis
- Microtox bioassay (in progress)
- Status
- Ongoing. Thesis and validation work in progress.
Outcome: Adaptation campaigns reached concentrations up to 70% reaction water; stable tolerance and ecotoxicity validation remain ongoing.
